Our Approach
We aim to create visually stunning gardens, borders and planters that will enhance a client's property. Your input, combined with our skills and creativity, ensures the optimum results — so we do our best to truly understand what you hope to achieve.
We believe choice and quality of materials and plants is paramount in creating a garden that will not only look good but stand the test of time.
Leaving the garden a better place to be in for its owners, and improving the local wildlife species, is always our aim.
"A garden that stands the test of time — for its owners and for wildlife."
Our Work
Who We Are
Helios Gardens is based in rural Surrey and works on the design and implementation of new gardens, borders and planters. It was founded in 2007 by Mair Ellis, who had previously worked in advertising and photography in London and New York.
Mair graduated in Garden Design from Merrist Wood and has been a member of the Society of Garden Designers.
In 2014, Jane Parsons joined Helios. Jane worked in theatre design in London before obtaining the RHS Certificates in Horticulture — bringing a distinctive artistic sensibility to every project.
Two designers. Two creative histories. One shared passion for exceptional gardens.
Featured Work
Plant Spa won a bursary for the Conceptual Gardens at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and was awarded a Silver Medal, receiving media acclaim for its originality of design.
Inspired by a desire to highlight the serious threat posed by man to the plant environment, Plant Spa offers a light-hearted insight into a not-too-distant future world — one where the plants we take for granted must be pampered and protected to ensure their survival, and ultimately our own.
Water gently cascades over three levels of a shallow circular pool, each a base for one of the clear acrylic spa pods — each representing a different biome and its plant species.
The large pod. Epiphytes including Bromeliads in a hydroponic system.
The medium pod. Sun-loving species in a controlled microclimate.
The small pod. Drought-adapted plants in an enclosed environment.
Underpinning the structural beauty is the use of mostly recycled materials and a hydroponic planting approach. Not only could this design fit fluently into a modern outdoor space or corporate atrium, but it offers myriad possibilities for adaptation — even enabling city dwellers to enjoy a high-tech, low-maintenance garden.
